The NFDC (National Film Development Corporation) Screenwriters Lab, an annual initiative that assists screenwriters in honing their work and submitting it to producers, chose the idea. The yearly event is a component of Film Bazaar, a South Asian film trade show that is held in conjunction with the International Film Festival of India (IFFI) in Goa. The production of Konyak will be handled by Kumar’s Jiboom Studios.

Uddhav Ghosh, one of the NFDC Screenwriters Lab 2024 picks, is writing the movie, which will be produced in Hindi, English, and Konyak Naga. The narrative centers on Thungpang, a warrior who must defend his community during a bloody battle between headhunting tribes while being led by prophetic visions. Thungpang’s confrontation with his old buddy Sangba is claimed to examine issues of honor and treachery. According to Variety, Ghosh’s journeys across Nagaland served as the inspiration for the project.

Through his previously mentioned production business, which is reportedly centered on theatrical storytelling, Kumar will serve as both director and producer of the movie. He is currently the director and post-production worker for the horror series Khauff on Amazon Prime Video.

In an interview with Variety, Kumar stated that the goal of Konyak is to produce an untamed and immersive movie that comes to life on the big screen, with each frame narrating a tale of tenacity and legacy.
